On 9/11
I have nothing much to say, except to tell everyone you love them today. Or, you can do it a la Homer Simpson:

Homer: From now on, I will say "I love you" or "You're special" before you leave the room. Nah, too long. How about just a pat on the butt?

Who needs the Kwik-E Mart? I doooooooooo
So, for those of you who don't know, 7-11's in several major cities was converted to look like the Kwik-E Mart for The Simpsons Movie that opens Friday (woohoo!) My brother, my friend Christine and I paid a visit to some old friends...

And I am just now starting the last Potter book, so nobody say anything to me about it yet.

Old friend, new whore?

That title has nothing to do with what's in this post; it's just one of my favourite quotes from That '70s Show and I thought would grab people's attention.

So, I thought I'd start it out with my thoughts what I'm reading/watching/listening to for anyone who cares:

Books )
Flicks )
Tuneage )

So, other than that, I'm just feeling pretty old, since my brother is graduating from high school Friday. We had his graduation party yesterday, which was fun (I had to laugh at how back-handedly derogative his cakes were, with messages like "You Made It!") but really hammered in how old I feel. My crazy super Catholic grandmother is coming in Thursday for a few days, which is always interesting. This time she's bringing her boyfriend, and I'm really tempted to give her a hard time for sleeping with a man who she isn't married too, but that would require me thinking about my grandmother sleeping with someone, and that's all kinds of ::shudders:: so, not going to do that.

Also, the Kohl's Sarah works at better get their arses in gear and let her know she has the time off so she can come visit, because if not, I'm just going to be listening to blues records for the next couple of weeks.

Sorry I was so rambly, but I hope everyone's summer is starting out well!

Late again!

So, here's my newspaper story from the past week. Sorry I didn't post it sooner, but like apparantly everyone else, I've been sick. Anyway, it's a little treat for Simpsons fans!

Two Great Quotes
So, thought I'd post two quotes that I've found pretty good the past couple days:

The first, obviosly, is from the Simpsons. Just a great Homer tirade:

"
Look, Marge, you don't know what it's like.  I'm  the one out
there every day putting his ass on the line.  And I'm not out of
order!  You're out of order.  The whole freaking system is
out of order.  You want the truth?  You want the truth?!  You
can't handle the truth!  'Cause when you reach over and put your
hand into a pile of goo that was your best friend's face, you'll
know what to do!  Forget it, Marge, it's Chinatown!"

And the other is from "One Fine Day," which is a pretty rampant "chick flick" but I was bored yesterday and it was the only thing on, and it does have a pretty good soundtrack. Anyway, it's George Clooney's character talking to his...maybe 8-year-old daughter, and it just struck me as hilarious, and something I would totally say to my daughter someday:

Jack Taylor:
Maggie, when you grow up and are incredibly beautiful and intelligent and possess a certain sweetness that's... that's like a distant promise to the brave, to the worthy, could you please not beat to a pulp every miserable bastard that comes your way simply because you can? Could you not do that?
Maggie Taylor: Okay Daddy.

So, those have been on my mind lately. Tomorrow's Thursday, which means newspaper day. Until then...

...36...

My first published college news article
So, gang, here it is - my first published story at Metro. Is it particularily life-altering or world-changing journalism? No, not really, unless the decision to buy the new 8th season of "The Simpsons," is the biggest event in your life right now. Still, it's rather exciting to be a "published journalist." Check it out if you want!

College journalism superstardom, here I come!

The joys of being a critic
So, seeing as school starts Monday for me, we had our first newspaper meeting on Sunday. I write for the Features section, which is a lot of fun, and so my first story is to review the new Season 8 of The Simpsons that came out yesterday. The only problem is that it's due tomorow, so I literally spent a good 7+ hours in my basement, with a lot of root beers, a notebook and pen, just going through episode after episode, watching special features, listening to commentaries, hunting down easter eggs, and taking notes on pretty much every episode I watch. And I'm not even half way through. Luckily for me, this is quite possibly the best Simpsons season ever, so it's not too bad. Ah, the joys of being a critic...
